Osaka Restaurant Guide
Osaka is a city afloat with restaurants serving irresistible, indigenous fast foods renowned across Japan. From okonomiyaki (thick pancakes loaded with cabbage, seafood and pork) to takoyaki (oozing octopus tentacles placed inside balls of dough), street food can be found wherever you look, often smeared in sauce and with a very generous price tag!
People are not afraid to queue for good food, so expect to see lines that go out onto the street and round the corner. These lines will often move fast for light bites such as taiyaki, fish shaped pastries with fillings ranging from red beans, to custard, chocolate and even bacon and cheese!
The heart of Osakan food lies in the Dotonbori district, where there is no shortage of restaurants and izakaya afloat with salarymen and travelers until the early hours of the morning. Umeda is also full of restaurants, many catering to a finer sort of dining hidden up in high rise buildings offering stunning views out onto the city.
Osakan’s love a drink, and that is evident by the exquisite selection of sake bottles lined up in most restaurants. Also, the locals are famed for their friendly ways, so don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation and ask for restaurant recommendation or two!
