If you are sitting on the 39th floor of a building, you can take it for granted that the view will be spectacular, especially in a new age city like Tokyo. Combine that with a friendly staff and good food and you get Lucis. We ordered a couple of dishes both veg and non veg, noodles and rice with st...arters. Everything was well prepared. Service was fast as well. It is a fine dining place in a high end locality so prices are a bit on the higher side.

This restaurant is on the 39th floor of Ebisu Garden Place. The views from this floor are incredible. Lucis Garden serves Japanese-style Chinese food. My Japanese friends invited me to lunch and so the menu I got had only the choices at the price they’d decided on. As a result, I don’t know what el...se was available, and I don’t know what it cost. The restaurant says that its cuisine is Mandarin. I’m no expert and thought it was Cantonese. We started with a salad with interesting flavors, and a few slices of chicken in a tasty sauce. After that, there were four main dishes to choose from. We were seven people, and each of the four dishes was ordered by at least one person. Here’s what we had: (1) “ebi chili sauce”: shrimp in allegedly chili sauce, but actually a plain-tasting tomato sauce; (2) “mabo dofu”: tofu and ground meat in a brown sauce. Usually this dish is hot and spicy but at this restaurant, it had no pepper taste; (3) chop suey; (4) sweet and sour pork: the pork pieces were overcooked and quite tough. I usually like this dish because it has a quantity of onions, bell peppers, and pineapple pieces cooked with the pork. In this case, however, no vegetables or fruit had been cooked with the pork. Rather, several raw vegetables were used as garnish, including sliced bell pepper, watercress, and a few thin slices of daikon pickle. Dessert was almond jelly, with no fruit in or on it. The restaurant describes itself as “modern Chinese”, encouraging customers to drink wine with their meals. I’m sure that’s good for the restaurant’s bottom line. All the restaurants on the 39th floor have the same “you can see forever” kind of view. My advice: choose some other restaurant on the 39th floor. If you go to Lucis Garden, be sure to reserve a window table.
