“Xenophobic place”

*Xenophobic place. I have English review down below Japanese. Three of us went for a beer around 10pm. Their food and drinks are OK and fun to try out variety of IPAs. The reason for 1star is that some of their customer and the service of the restaurant is very discriminatory towards foreign customers. First of all, the three of us have different ethnic backgrounds and English is the common language among the three of us. It was our first visit to the restaurant and we were discussing our order in front of the cash register. As we were discussing what to order, an older man, probably a regular customer, who was sitting on the couch table in front of the cash register, said "Be quiet!" He never shouted hysterically, but it was loud enough to make the surrounding seats quiet. We speak Japanese as well, so when we apologized in Japanese, the male customer seemed surprised, as if he had not expected a response in Japanese. He pointed out a notice on a table in the restaurant that said, "Please refrain from talking loudly," and asked us to be quiet. I may have been excited about their menu since it was first time visiting, but our conversation went for 30 seconds or 1minute at the most after entering the restaurant. I thought, "Isn't that a little excessive?", but the matter was settled by our apology. After that, while I was enjoying the food and beer in the picture, a staff member in his 50's or 60's with gray hair and glasses (could be he was the person in charge at that time?), who had been watching the above incident, came to the standing bar area about 5 meters away from the bar counter and told us to "wear masks when talking and not to talk loudly". What we noticed at this point was that the other group of customers were obviously talking without masks, even if they were not at the time of bringing food to their mouths, and there was no extreme difference in the volume of their voices. At this point, we suspected that "that customer was the one who asked the restaurant to complain to us". Even if it was not the same customer, why did the staff of the restaurant come to warn us only when everyone else around us was also drinking and having a good time/conversation with alcohol influence? I had a strong impression of disbelief. As a result, I can only say that we were treated in a very discriminatory manner. (I'd even say they are xenofobic )I will never go there again and will never recommend this restaurant to any of my foreign or Japanese friends.

“Authentic retro cafe, now smoke free”

This tiny place was voted the Time Out Love Local Awards 2022 in May 2022. This is a unique, magnetic place where many regular customers support in the face of adversaries, whether covid or landlord asking them to leave. The ambience is odd. It is an experience. Wherever you look it is filled with... things or words without logic. The ceiling is low, there are no windows, thank God smoking is no longer permitted. This place is free of corporate visual merchandizing guidelines. The set breakfast is mere 3 Euro. The pricing is set up for repeat visits. As you sip coffee, you can reach their newsletter (in Japanese) which layout feels like a school newspaper. Behind all what they write, sell and create is huge passion and love... And pride in doing a small business in their own way. If you want to experience, a Japanese retro cafe supported by hard core fan place, pay a visit.

This shop is located in Shinjuku Station. It was very popular and the shops were crowded. I ate a hot dog and it was very delicious. I understand why it is so popular.

Great little spot for a cheap breakfast at the train station. You won't see any foreigners here. Only drawback is that the place is tiny and full of smokers.

“The locals eat here”

My wife and I ate breakfast at Berg this morning. It's a small smokey restaurant that's bustling with locals and the odd tourist. The breakfast was very basic, think small piece of bacon, toast, egg and a scoop of potatoe salad with some ok coffee. I noticed a few people having breakfast beers, over...all worth a look if your in the area.
