“We wanted to try something different”

We wanted to try something different in Tokyo after ten days in the country. VilaMoura presented a great option. We went there without a reservation. It was fully booked. We made a reservation for the following evening on the spot. It was worth it. We had a number of small dishes to share includin...g the codfish and potato gratin, the deep fried codfish and oven roasted sardine. It was a delicious affair.

ランチに利用しました。現地の友達が予約してくれただけあって、非常に美味しかったです。人気店のようなので予約マストだと思います。スタッフのサービスも凄く良くて、非常に心地の良い空間でした。 My local friend made a reservation. It seems like a popular restaurant in Ginza, so you must need a reservation. We visited in lunch time and order a course. The food was excellent and so do the staff servi...ce.

“I had a very good time.”

Vilamoura is located in Ginza and it takes about 2 minutes by walk from little crowded Ginza station. It is difficult to understand the location because it's on the first basement, but there is an azulejo board which is beautiful and visible so you will be able to find the restaurant easily. In the ...restaurant, there are some red tables, chairs that were made of wood, cataplanas mean hot pots. The restaurant is rare and interesting because there are only a few Portugal restaurants in Japan. In addition, the restaurant is lively because staff are friendly. The restaurant is open from Monday to Friday 11:30-15:00, 17:00-23:30 and Saturday and Sunday 11:30-22:30. The food of restaurant is Portuguese cuisine. Feature of Portugal foods are simple taste and seafood is used (cod, sardin and clams etc…). There are many things which are related to Portugal in the restaurant. First, there are gators which bring luck to people and traditional bird crafts. Portugal flag uses red and green. The table color in the restaurant is red. Sometimes the restaurant has fado concerts. Fado is Portugal music and singers sing about pathos. Vilamoura has wines of more than 100 kinds that are loved by Portuguese even now. Staffs said that Madeira wine is the most popular in this restaurant I order a set meal and it was just right amount for me. A set meal was assorted vegetable, cod of croquettes, cheese bread, baked sardine, tomato risotto, coffee or tea.The restaurant had some desserts such as Pastel de Nata (egg tart), Purim (pudding which is rich and thick), and Pao de lo (kasutera). These deserts were as sweet real Portugal desserts. Bits of information was written in a menu. For example, the reason why Portugal desserts use many eggs and much sugar. I ate a Pao de lo which was brought to Japan by Portuguese March Anyo in the 16th century and it became Kasutera. Portugal had an impact on Japanese foods so eating Portuguese foods is connected to knowing Japan. Therefore, it was a good place to know about Portugal. Also I ate a Catapurana. There are many seafoods in the hot pot. A staff recommended customers that make a porridge of rice and seafood soup. These were delicious. Also, some staffs spoke in Portugal so you will feel as if you are in Portugal. As it is located in Tokyo, price is little expensive but the restaurant and staffs will give you the best experience.

It was surprising to find a Portuguese restaurant in Tokyo. But there is a bit of history behind how the Portuguese entered Japan and hence left some legacy back. The restaurant serves almost everything which is Portuguese.Right from beer and wine to the main course. There is this mild Portuguese sty...le music which plays in the background. This along with the interiors gives it a nice European look. I liked the mixed sea food dish ,which was in some kind of a broth. You are expected to finish the shrimps, squids etc and then the broth or soup leftover is mixed with rice which you eat in the end. So overall a good blend of local food and drink. Must visit if you are a tourist and need a change from the local cuisine.
