Tempura Asakusa SAKURA

What a fabulous find, felt authentic, the staff create an experience and superb interaction. The food was excellent, I had the signature which was filling, and my friend had the omakase special which was like a theatre performance with 5 shots of sake!

Delicious. Everything in here is entirely dedicated gluten free. When we asked what we could eat he said "everything" A Tempura meal bowl consists of: a bowl of rice, some slices of cooked steak, a variety of vegetable pieces in tempura baterr - pumpkin, egg plant etc. Then some kind of fritter made... from tempura and sweetcorn and vegetables. On the side is a selection of sauces, chopped herbs, wasabi, bonito sauce and a dipping sauce bowl. Everything was light and crispy and delicious. They even have a gluten free beer. For 2 people including 2 drinks each was 12000JPY, which i think is very reasonable.

We stopped by around 3:15pm after this place had been highly recommended to us. It only seats around 10 people and we hadn’t booked, so we were very lucky to find a couple of free seats. I’d definitely recommend reserving in advance, as I can imagine it fills up very easily depending on the time of ...day. We’d already had lunch, so ordered à la carte and shared a few dishes. My wife is coeliac and everything here is gluten free, which was a big reason we wanted to visit as she rarely gets the chance to have tempura. The white fish tempura was absolutely delicious. I’m not usually a fan of fried food as I often find it greasy, and white fish wouldn’t normally be my first choice either, but this was genuinely excellent, light, tasty and not greasy at all. The seared meat sushi was another highlight. I’m a huge beef lover and the flavour was sensational. A single serving comes with two pieces, and I could very happily have ordered more! The atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed, with prompt and friendly service throughout. A fantastic little place, particularly for anyone who is coeliac, but the food is well worth seeking out regardless. Highly recommended.

One of the best Tempura we had in Tokyo. We found out about this place on the Internet & just had to try it. When we arrived at 12.30pm the place was packed and since we did not have a reservation, we were told to come back at 2pm. The wait was worth it as it was one of the best tempura we had in Ja...pan ( the other being SOYOGI in Otaru). Everything was so fresh, the crispiness incomparable and the beef simply melts in your mouth. Service was also excellent and what made it extra special was that they had a Guest Relations service staff that spoke good English and that helped a lot when it came to ordering. A must visit when one is in Tokyo. It us also so convenient as it is just a short walk from Asakusa station.

Very disappointing and poor value. The website made this place look like a serious Japanese tempura restaurant, but what we actually got felt like a tourist sales operation. For the price, I expected real traditional tempura quality and care. That is not what we experienced. The moment we sat down, ...staff pushed us toward the priciest items, which made the whole meal feel awkward from the start. The booking process felt off too. The site builds all this urgency to reserve, but then the cancellation fee makes you feel trapped. The food did not come close to justifying the price. The tempura was oily, the portions were tiny, and the quality was way below what you should get in Japan. The wagyu was okay but lacked flavour, barely had any coating on most of it, and there was nothing memorable to pair it with. Being told rice refills were free felt almost insulting given how small and expensive everything else was. Overall this felt like an expensive tourist trap, not a real tempura restaurant. I wish I had looked beyond their own website. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone wanting authentic, good value tempura in Asakusa.
