“A gem for seafood and kappo, just steps away from the Asakusa Don Quixote store”
Our flight to Tokyo was delayed by over 5 hours. By the time we checked in into our hotel, it was already past 10 pm. Most restaurants had already closed their door or no longer allowing customers in. We saw a few other options, including a Korean food restaurant, and a beer and fried chicken res...taurant, all around Don Quixote. But being our first night in Japan, we really wanted to find a place with more traditional Japanese food. One of my kids saw a sign with pictures of seafood dishes, so we walked downstairs into Kuzushi Kappo Shimasho, and they welcomed us in at 11:10pm, despite the fact that they close at midnight. We couldn't have been more thrilled by the place. It was cozy, and both the chef and the hosts were friendly. The host spoke just enough English to allow us to order food and carry a simple conversation. The food was fresh (great seafood platter), and also had a good variety of meat and stew choices beyond just shellfish and fish. Great selection of Sake and Beer as well. All the dishes were delicious, and freshly prepared. The menu was 100% in Japanese, so we depended on the host to help translate and provide some suggestions. Fish was most excellent (mackerel and I think eel), and the pork dishes, and omelette were super tasty as well. We came with no expectations but left extremely delighted and satisfied by the great kappo-style experience, friendly service, and great food. We ended up leaving around 12:20am, and felt a bit guilty for making those folks stay later than their normal working hours. But in return, I did promise them I would write them a review on Trip Advisor (my first review here) as a testament of our satisfaction, and token of gratitude. Don't hesitate to come here and give it a try, but perhaps download the offline Google Translate Japanese pack on your smartphone so you can have a better view of the menu.
