“The real deal, but not for everyone”
If you want the real experience of okonomiyaki, this is a good place for it. Different styles (Osaka, Hiroshima), and nicely prepared. It is more comfort or street food than anything special, though. It's basically a big cabbage infused pancake with lots of fillings and stuffings. Quite heavy, but g...ood if you're really hungry. Not a fancy place at all, and on the small side, but you can sit down and it's comfortable enough.

“Excellent Okonomiyaki!”
This restaurant is on the B1 level of the Shinjuku Subnade, on the East side of the station, running under Yasukuni-dori and very close to Shinjuku and Shinjuku-nishiguchi stations. I found it by matching the picture on the internet with what the restaurant looks like. No English sign outside, but... they have an English menu. It is very small inside, with only about 8 tables and some places to sit in front of the chef making the food. The waitress was very helpful. I ordered the vegetarian okonomiyaki with avocado, then added some Hokkaido pork and green onions on top. It was delicious, and more than enough for one, and I also had a nice umeshu (plum wine, on the rocks). Prices were average for Tokyo, and I thought it a very good value and tasty meal. I got a table immediately around 6:30 pm weekday, but there was a long queue when I left, and about an hour waiting time at the weekend - it is popular!

“Just alright ”
We ordered moonlight okonomiyaki and original modern-yaki. It is very rich and intense in flavour with all the dressings and sauces. It will be too much for one to finish the entire serving. There are only bits of black wahyu beef. The Hokkaido pork is a bit fat with quite heavy porky smell. Servic...e is poor although the restaurant is only two third occupied. None of them has a smile on their face that night. They may be exhausted at end of day. Though popular, it does not really suit my taste bud. Unlikely to revisit.

“Tasty dinner after a full day of walking around Shinjuku”
Tricky to find in the subnade level b2 underneath the princes hotel, right opposite Starbucks. English menu available and around 30 minute wait for a table but the food was delicious. You can sit at a table or round the bar, this place offers a wide range of Japanese food from okonomiyaki to noodles.... Very small restaurant but very quaint, certainly perked us up after a day on our feet

“Very average food with an unhelpful waiter”
We went for lunch there and I must say the food was not what I expected. I have eaten in Tokyo much better and much cheaper! We ordered okonomiyaki which was a mixture of fish and quite fatty meat combined with eggs and lots of mayonnaise. It didn't have a distinctive taste. It was quite bland.
