“Second stop of the nite”
The food was very nice, including the sake! Actually it was our second stop of the night, so we didn’t order a lot! Wish I can go there again soon! It is worth the try!

“Live Squid”
I was extremely impressed by this small basement restaurant. The staff were very helpful providing great service. The pick of the menu is live squid sashimi and creamy crab croquets. We were amazed at how reasonable the prices are.

“Crab cream croquettes did not disappoint!”
I should clarify at the start that I only did a takeaway of their crab cream croquettes (960 yen + tax for 3 huge pieces) and did not dine in, as the place was fully reserved the evening I visited. Still, the hostesses were friendly and polite, and the croquettes were amazing! It is a bit much for o...ne person to have, so I would recommend sharing.

“My Sapporo Must-Go”
Every time I visit Sapporo, I make sure to take time and visit the Kaiyotei for amazing and authentic Hokkaido seafood. I've now been a total of six times and have always been more than happy with quality and the price. At the entrance to the restaurant you're greeted by an aquarium with swimming ...squids that might end up on your table as Ika-somen (thinly sliced raw squid), if you desire. The squid is sort of the signature dish and comes with nothing in the side. However, you can chose how to prepare the head/ tentacles, which will be served later (chose the tempura version). The freshness, they pull the squid out of the aquarium minutes before preparation, and the quality is hard to come by in Other areas of Japan, especially at that price. Other items on the menu include onigiri with ikura and uni (salmon roe and sea urchin), crab korokke (also a must-try) and various raw or boiled or grilled fish. It's best to ask for seasonal specials for sashimi. The waters around Hokkaido hold many different sorts of shellfish or fish that are best eaten at their ripest. The sake list is also extensive and the staff is knowledgeable on which bottle goes well with the fish. Kaiyotei is not a fancy place, so relaxing and eating, drinking and having a good time is easy. It's conveniently located in Susukino for after dinner entertainment. Looking forward to my next trip to Sapporo for another visit!
