It is a little bit of a captured audience moment. There are no other food options nearby. It is a tad expensive for what you get but wouldn't go as far as to call it gouging. The food is pretty good. Our roast beef sandwich was tasty. Honestly, the non Japanese food was a nice break. They do... highlight local produce. Hokkaido potatoes and dairy. They do have Nikka Whiskey pairings and tastings available. This seems to be whiskey tour operator's lunch restaurant. If you are here anyway for the whiskey tour, it is a good option.

Located at the Nikka Whisky Distillery in Yoicha, next to the distilleries shop. Named after the founder’s Scottish wife, it is open seven days a week between 10:00am and 3:30pm. As there aren’t a lot of dining options in Yoicha then if you are taking a guided tour of the distillery, you are likely ...to end up eating here. In saying that the food at the restaurant is actually really good. They have a wide variety of western and Japanese dishes. The portion sizes are generous, the prices are reasonable, the food came out fast and the service was attentive. Make sure you try the whisky ice-cream if you have room for dessert.

We visited recently and enjoyed a quality Fish n Chips meal. Very good. The restaurant is not high end and is convenient if you’re visiting the Nikki Distillery or tasting. The management are full in with safety measures so that can operate during the COVID-19 times. Well done.

We are a family of five, including a two year old, and decided to have lunch here as part of our visit to the distillery. We were made to feel very welcome, and a high chair was provided. The menu is available in English, and you can eat either tradilitionally prepared food or more Western cuisine. ...I was given very helpful English advice on how to approach my Japanese choice - a very thoughtful touch. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and we highly recommend eating here.

After finishing our exploration of the Nikka Whisky Distillery we had lunch at the restaurant Taru which is next to the Distillery shop. Staff are welcoming and professional and they have an English menu, which offers both Japanese and English / Scottish food, as well as some whisky tasting options... if you are interested. I had a beautifully presented and tasting Scottish broth (flavour was spot on) served with a small salad, roll and butter, and my husband had a Japanese curry which he reports was also tasty. The whole experience was first rate, and the menu is surprisingly inexpensive given both the location, the quality of the food, and the level of service from staff. Highly recommended if you visit the Distillery and are looking for a good quality food and service.
