Sushidokoro Nishiki is a 2-storey sushi house in Namba with a rather high ranking on Tabelog. The restaurant is bright and clean. Although tatami rooms on the upper floor provide much privacy, the seats are not elderly-friendly. Servers are polite and helpful. Sushi variety is reasonable, but t...he quality does not match the price. While the sea urchin sushi (JPY 660/pc) tastes fishy, the fatty tuna sashimi (JPY 5,500) and sushi (JPY 650/pc) are not fatty at all! Highlight of the dinner is the freshest salmon sushi.

Tourist Trap. I haven't written a negative post on Tripadvisor for a long long time, and it really pains me to write one on Japan, which is probably our most visited holiday place ever (3 times a year+ from our base in Hong Kong). A friend booked this place for us as it had decent reviews on Tabelo...g but this preference for booking off the beaten path on a little side street cost us dearly. At first we unknowingly just booked a premium sushi set (JPY5000) by no means cheap and a tempura set (JPY2000) and sake (JPY3000). Then I realized looking at the Japanese menu (i can read basic) and the English one, the price is different for the same thing. The local menu had the same sushi set and tempura set at 3000 and 1500. I attempted to enquire and the polite waitress spoke to a sushi counter guy and they came back with some BS reply that the Japanese one is "new" and we are in process of updating everything. Which completely does not make sense since I saw a piece of Eel-sushi was 500 in the english menu and 300 in the local menu. Japanese deflation can surely not be 40% discount in a few weeks. When the sushi set soon arrived, I knew we were "done in". This premium 5000 yen sushi set was small, missing the fatty tuna and Uni pieces that is a bare minimum for a premium set, instead it was literally all cheapest fish. Even the Ikura gunkan sushi was the smallest serving I've ever seen. We quickly finished the food, dropped our JPY11000 and finished our dinner elsewhere.

I had a dinner with my family. I got a private room and it was on the 2nd floor. We had sashimi, sushi and shirako and I think they were fair and not outstanding. The owner chef came up for greeting and he looked nice and polite guy though.
