First the good: there was no line to wait for a table at 7:45pm. We were lured in by the food display outside the restaurant which showed steak on a cast iron plate. It was a new benchmark for the lowest grade of quality in Japan :o We were greeted by the server with the caveat that we had to order... by 9pm and finish eating by 10 because they were going to close. We said, great no problem. We had to wave for them to come take our order and the server came and was texting on his phone, pretending to take our order on his Iphone then acted like it wasn't working and he took a pad out of his apron. We ordered hamburger with gravy Japanese style which as decent and a good sized portion plus steaks and an "upgrade" to include a salad and the bread bar for a total of 1690 + 394 = 2,084 yen each. The salad was equivalent to 1 lettuce leaf (no exaggeration). The hanger steak was thin like a half a deck of cards and palm sized -- and mostly fat and gristle. The steak on the plate was missing and when we called the waiter over to let him know, he looked surprised. I saw that he rushed behind the counter where there was an open grill behind the counter. It turns out the 2 servers in there are also the cooks..., ha! It arrived raw, served it on a heated cast iron plate but it was cold. ! The bread bar could have helped this rating but, it was tough and stale. Bet it had been sitting in those baskets since lunch or... breakfast? We have had the best experiences in all other restaurants and have not had a bad meal in all of our combined visits to Japan which is why we all agreed to tell this sorrowful dining tale. There are so many wonderful places to enjoy a meal so skip the temptation and head across the street instead.
