Teppan Steak House 青山

I have been fortunate to eat in a number of teppanyaki restaurants but none as good as this. My wife and I had four days in Kyoto and this was a celebration lunch before we headed to Osaka on the next stage of our Japanese adventure. The restaurant was recommended by the staff at the Ace Hotel whe...re we were staying. It’s literally a five minute walk. We would recommend the hotel as well if you’re looking for a fun and brilliantly located place to stay in Kyoto. Like many Japanese restaurants and bars, the number of guests it can accommodate at any one time is tiny, only 8 in this case. The teppan plate is right in front of you so you immediately become part of the cooking experience which is almost as good as the food (but not quite). We didn’t book and just walked in at 12.30 pm on a Monday. For more busy times, it would be wise to book ahead, just in case. We both ordered the Kobe beef, the standard trimmings and a delicious and well priced bottle of Californian cab sav (Hahn) which at 7,000 Yen was really good value. The husband and wife team that run this place were friendly and so welcoming. Their English was reasonable and communication was never an issue. He was a skilled chef and made the whole process look seamless and it was a pleasure to closely watch a master performing his craft. The Kobe beef is obviously the hero here and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was tasty, full of flavor and literally melts in your mouth. Every bite is a moment to savour. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and, for 30,000 Yen all up, it wasn’t cheap but definitely worth every cent (Yen).

We had a wonderful evening at Teppan Steak House Aoyama during our visit to Kyoto. We had the set menu and was presented with a selection of excellent dishes. The atmosphere was calm and friendly. I would very much recommend a visit if you are looking for Teppan with good value!

Went my wife & 2 adult boys. Small cozy place on a back street. Wagyu cooked in front of you. Amazing to watch the skill. We all agreed it was the best steak we have ever tasted.

We enjoyed wagyu beef cooked expertly in front of us and this was served with a small quantity of vegetables and salt , soy and a satay sauce for dipping. We also had a salad and some garlic chips. Total weight of meat was about 320g for two and interestingly the menu price quoted was without the ta...x added. A bottle of French Bordeaux was approximately €40. The beef was beautifully marbled and very tender. This is a tiny restaurant with only 8 places at the teppan counter. It is a short 15 min journey on the subway from Kyoto station

we choose Special beef Teppanyaki menu sets. the food all delicious. my Daughter loves it. she can eat a lot.. MUST TRY !! and we got special discount 5% for cash payment. Must Visit and try the food
