My daughter and I ordered the Omakase Special. The preparation and presentation of each course was superb. I struggled with some of the items because I have had radiation treatments on my mouth. As soon as they realized this, they went out of their way to prepare mine in a fashion that would make it... easier for me to swallow. We had a wonderful experience sampling their local cuisine.

This was the best dinner experience we had while in Japan. The chef was wonderful, great conversation, and very handsome. The food was original and delicious, yet still introduced us to Kyoto style cuisine. It’s a treasure, and not to be missed. Spotted this on Apple maps and decided to give it a go at 5pm on a weekday. OMG was it amazing! Initiallly a little confusing bc apple maps calls it saijiki nensen but its current name appears to be saijiki toshigami. Sat at the counter and watched the chef assemble the Chef’s recommended seasona...l kaiseki menu. Tried a bunch of new things and it was all delicious, thoughtful, and beautifully presented. One dish included rice still on the stalk but also somehow puffed like popcorn. We asked the chef to select a couple different sakes, and he did not disappoint. Probably not a great place to bring young kids— definitely a quiet, peaceful vibe here. It took over 2 hours to make our way through the entire meal— all small portions— but we were in no rush and we savored every bite, along with the slow pace. Make a reservation if you decide to go— it’s so worth it!

What a JOY to experience a traditional kaiseki here. Hiroki (the owner and chef) was a fantastic host — funny, chatty, and so friendly. He guided us through a delicious sequence of seasonal dishes, with great sake pairings along the way. The food was excellent, and made even more special by Hiroki h...imself. A definite definite must when in Kyoto.

A real Kyoto food experience. I had been searching the Gion area for a kaiseki meal experience but I was finding many places that had the feel of a tourist trap, maybe charging excessive prices for food that didn't seem that interesting. Eventually I widened my search a little further from Gion, nea...r to Kiyomizu and found this restaurant and I'm glad I did. We enjoyed a meal by a friendly and creative chef (and his assistant) who served us a multi course omakase meal, literally hand made in front of us. It all tasted great, carefully prepared and also creative. One of the most memorable meals of the trip and I'm glad we chose to come here. We were also able to have a chat with the chef too about his background and the ingredients used, which made the meal feel personal and not just another tourist stop. Highly recommend. Booking recommended unless you get lucky and there are spare seats.
