“Great chef and great food”
Excellent food and top chef, who is preparing everything fresh in front of you. The flavours are amazing and we always visit whenever we are in Kyoto.

“Fall Masterpiece”
Our first visit. It was an another astonishing food experience in Kyoto. It was a season for Japanese maples turning into red, and the chef presented nothing but the fall by creative way of cooking. Japanese SOBA with bottarga was a small dish but impressive combination. HASSUN was highlight of ...the dinner in which you feel like walking down a path of Ohara where you had been in the morning. Selection of SAKE was also very satisfactory. We definitely want to come back in other seasons.

“Exquisite ”
Recommended by the hotel we had a thoroughly interesting exposure to traditional kyoto kaiseki. One of the best restaurants in kyoto where you are personally served by Chef Tsutomo Horibe. Service is understated,polite and efficent. Even the beer is served precisely with just the right amount of fro...th! We went for chef's choice omakase and had the pleasure of watching the chef painstakingly prepare each small dish in front of us. The attention to detail was extraordinary. The fish soup was clear and so cleanly defined you could taste each ingredient. Truly impressive. The sashimi was like nothing we have tried before in Japan or elsewhere. The patronage is predominantly Japanese which means the locals like his food which is good enough for me. All in a great experience. Not cheap but strongly recommend.

“A truly joyful experience of traditional Japanese cuisine with a contemporary twist”
From beginning to end, we felt we were in the midst of something very special. The kaiseki menu was full of surprises and as well as giving us an overview of traditional Kyoto cuisine, the chef kept surprising us with contemporary twists, worthy of a haute cuisine restaurant. The place was intimate ...and the atmosphere conducive to conversation. The courteous but always affable service by Tsutomu Horibe and his staff was spot on and as we were leaving the restaurant we felt very fortunate of this chance encounter (we had been looking for a place to eat in Shimbashi). No doubt one of our culinary highlights in a trip full of culinary highlights!
