“Wonderful Tempura Omakase in Osaka”
Chef Obata made every ingredient shine - from the salt he made himself from kelp to the dashi based tencha and tempura. We had Chinese yam, angel shrimp, scallop, seasonal fish, fresh vegetables, each of which were fresh and delicious. He also prepared some fried scallop rings which paired perfectly... with sake. It was lovely to chat with Chef Obata while he prepared each course, and he kindly engaged our baby who was also interested in watching the master of his craft. Wonderful evening and worth the experience.

“Memorable tempura”
The best tempura I've ever had, essentially a tempura omakase. Chef Obata is an expert chef and exceedingly friendly and welcoming. If he has anago bones, ask for them fried as a salty and crunchy snack to pair with your beer. I can't recommend this memorable experience highly enough!

“Best night out in Osaka so far.”
Wow! Amazing! Out of the way, upstairs and so hard to know the genesis resides up there. No glittz and glamour, only tempura perfection and a one man show. The food will speek for itself. Freshly sourced from the markets every day it is quality and affordable. Issie was so charming, and as we had hi...m to ourselves, we had a master class in culinary perfection. He was so keen to share his passion for food it was contagious. We will eat here every time we are Osaka.

“A great tempura experience”
We only stumbled across Tempura Shunrakuan Obata when chef Issei Obata approached us in the street outside and asked us in English if we would come and look at the menu in his restaurant. We are so glad we did. It was a quiet night so my partner and I had a wonderful evening being cooked for by Isse...i San. The food was incredible - delicate, tasty seafood and vegetable tempura. We learnt a lot about how the food is prepared and had a fun night chatting to Issei San who has great English and a great sense of humour. It's a small restaurant with bar seating only so make a reservation to ensure a spot. Highly recommended.

“Excellent food and entertaining owner”
My husband Gerry and I were our walking in Osaka it was raining and we were approached by Issei the owner of this restaurant he was so warm and spoke good English so we decided to try his restaurant out a couple of nights later and we were so pleased we did, the food was amazing and Issei is so enth...usiastic about what he does and explained everything he was cooking, we would certainly recommend this restaurant it was one of the best meals we had in Japan during our 5 week tour👍
