天ぷら 旬楽庵 おばた

Chef Obata is very kind and welcoming, so it was a great experience all around! The food was delicious, and there was a vegetarian option that I really enjoyed. The seating is counter-top so you can watch him prepare the food and have a nice conversation. Chef Obata also speaks English, so it's a g...reat spot for tourists to enjoy dinner and a cozy atmosphere. I recommend making a reservation - we had no trouble finding one only two days in advance. You can also walk in but there are only ~8 seats, so you might have to wait a little.

Where to start ? What an evening. A truly unique experience. Our first visit to Osaka and we were made so incredibly welcome by the fabulous, kind, generous, humble, funny and charming Issei Obata. We pre-booked the Obata Course set meal, which I expected to be about ten (small) courses. After... about twenty, I stopped counting. One or two were outside our comfort zone, one or two were not entirely to our taste, but the whole experience was an absolute joy and we had an evening not to be missed or forgotten. This was by far the stand out dining experience of our two weeks in Asia and cannot be recommended highly enough.

A small restaurant where all customers sit around the owner/chef as he prepares delicious tempura. The tempura was varied and of high quality. The restaurant is on the second floor and can therefore be a little bit tricky to find
