“Evening Sushi”
Sushi worthy of a great omakase dinner, but served a la carte, on demand. Impeccable presentation, excellent, rapid service. Interesting selection, good sake offering. Loved the small and chic setting and furnishings and the staff were courteous and attentive. If you find yourself west of the Kam...o on a weekday evening in Kyoto, make the trip to Sushi Kizaemon. You won’t be sorry.

“I’d recommend this place, but be prepared to wait if you’re dining during peak hours.”
Sushi Kizaemon is located in Pontocho Alley (on the side without the river view). I went for dinner one evening and was initially told the wait would be 1 hour and 20 minutes. I decided to stay, and to my surprise, I was seated within 40 minutes — it’s clearly a very popular spot. As a solo diner, y...ou may be asked to share a table with another solo guest. I didn’t mind and was simply glad to eat. By the time I finished, the queue was even longer. Make sure to register when you arrive. Once seated, you scan the QR code with your smartphone to view the menu and place your order. When you’re done, just let a staff member know and they’ll bring the bill to your table. There is a cover charge of ¥385 per person (May 2026). Although sushi dominates the menu, there are other options available. I would still recommend choosing the sushi. For convenience, I ordered the Recommended 9 Pieces set along with hot green tea. It was excellent — very fresh, beautifully presented, and the fish practically melted in your mouth. Dishes arrive as they’re ready. I’d recommend this place, but be prepared to wait if you’re dining during peak hours.
