“Amazing place two doors down from our hotel.”
The food was just outstanding, amazing. We may need to return tomorrow…and very reasonable prices. Pork with the egg - amazing. Raw beef so good, fried chicken -wow.

“First night in Kyoto”
“Utterly delicious and inexpensive”
We loved the food in this tiny place. It was delicious and very affordable. Most dishes are tapas-sized, but we also shared a large bowl of Sichuan Mapo Tofu noodles which was exquisite. Make reservations or come early as we did.

“Fantastic reasonable lunch - not just, or even mainly, Gyoza”
Fantastic lunch - don't be fooled by the Gyoza tag - they offer set lunches built around a Gyoza offering but with a staple of either a rice or noodle dish, within the 1000-2000 yen range. Fantastic value. I had the pork stew option, which was one of the best dishes I had on out three-week trip. Ju...st off the main part of Gion. Pretty small - maybe twenty covers including outside. We were lucky to walk in at the tail end of lunch service mid-week

“Dandan to Die for”
With music for the dust bowl days of Oklahoma, this quaint restaurant was a great experience. The servers were attentive, and the food was excellent. The spicy dan dan noodles were the highlight—rich, savory, and packed with bold heat. The sauce had a deep, nutty flavor with just the right amount ...of spice to keep things exciting without overwhelming the palate. The noodles themselves were perfectly cooked, holding onto the sauce in every bite. The small scoop potato salad offered a nice contrast. The cod roe added a unique touch to the meal. It brought a briny, umami-rich flavor that felt both delicate and indulgent. Overall, the combination worked surprisingly well together—spicy, creamy, and savory elements all coming together in a satisfying and well-rounded meal.
