Restaurant recommended by hotel concierge as our preferred choice was not available. Turned out to be a fantastic dining experience. Master sushi chef was very good. There are 2 Omakase options. A small appetiser to start and a hor d’oeuvres plate that is like a main meal. This was followed 12 sushi... pieces. Chef does not recommend using soya sauce. Each piece was heaven. 3 carafes of samurai princess sushi was good complement to the dinner. A great fish soup and persimmon dessert to end the dining experience.

This restaurant was recommended to us by the Ryokan Asadaya and we were really happy with our lunch. We ate the 8000 yen menu and it was excellent quality for the price (for example, I got to eat lots of the best tuna, which proved to be a great delicacy.

And I am not using “best” too often. From the minute we walked in there was this feeling of professionalism, esthetics and most of all that you are really welcome. It was amazing to watch the sushi chef and his su-chef work. Preparing the wasabi from the root and the ginger were only the starter for... the fantastic sushi preparation. Each of the sushi were excellent and none required the addition of soy sauce. The richness of tastes was so well composed that nothing of the various ingredients was lost. We highly recommended Asanogawa!

If you want to try Japanese food but highlighted with subtle additional flavors this is the place. The chef is a master at creating a new taste by adding flowers or seasoning to an otherwise familiar slice of fish. This was the highlight restaurant of our four-day visit to Kanazawa. There ar...e two choices on the menu: expensive and a bit more expensive. We ordered one of each, and the only difference was the “bit more expense” option had a few more courses (personally, I’d go with the “bit more expense” option again). But, both options come with MANY courses (expect to spend a few hours eating). English is limited, but Google-translate will get you anything you need. The restaurant is small, so you might need reservations. (Somewhat humorously, this restaurant is called “Sushi Restaurant” on Google maps, which I suppose is somewhat more descriptive than “Japanese Restaurant” but does making searching for it kinda difficult. It’s right next to the bridge tho…)

This was a remarkable experience. Though we choose the less expensive option, we had the full attention of the sushi chef. Each selection was delicious, tender and flavorful. No soy sauce needed. The fish was sliced in a way That left it melting in your mouth. Even the rice was delicious. We could t...aste each layer, each ingredient, each bite. The ginger was young and spicy without being too sharp. The chef paid close attention, even adjusting to our left handed use of chopsticks. He watched to see how we responded to each item and adjusted accordingly. Great food here at a reasonable price!
