We had a great meal and cultural experience at Tsugaru Joppari. We arrived early due to other reviews mentioning reservations but found the restaurant nearly empty at 5:30 on a weekday/offseason. We found great seats in the main area which only seats around 14. Two or three other small spaces adjac...ent seat an additional 6-10 people . The restaurant slowly filled to near capacity by the time of the Tsugaru-jamisen performance at 7PM. We were the only non-native speakers in the crowd but the staff was helpful and accommodating even showing us how to eat certain dishes. With the help of a translator app we had no trouble ordering and communicating basic desires. The food was tasty and well presented. There is a 1100 yen service charge per person which covers a tasty appetizer freshly cooked at the table. Overall… we had a great evening.

Reserved a spot for 2 a few weeks in advance but unfortunately had to settle for 8pm which was after the performance. Nonetheless, the place was fully booked with guests going in and and out throughout the evening. The staff are all really friendly and they have a small English menu, though, the Jap...anese menu may have had more options to choose from! My husband and I ordered the mozoku seaweed, ikura don, sashimi salad and fish soup which was all wayy too much food for us. The sashimi salad was massive - easily 4 servings. The fish soup seemed never ending! Oh and there is a cover charge so we also had some dried grilled squid and pork appies that they served us. Unique place to dine and I would recommend trying to get a reservation spot for a performance next time.

A short tour of Tohoku included a stop at Aomori and dinner here. Identified by our friend Phil from word of mouth recommendations from hotel staff and a taxi driver, this restaurant was a short taxi ride from Aomori station. The building had many signs and lights and nembuta themed pictures that w...ere repeated everywhere inside. We were seated in a circle of perhaps 20 people looking into a central service area that later became the site of the 'floor show' - shamisen and a classical singer - that made the night quite magical. The meal included excellent fresh seafood and interesting local sake. We were the only non-Japanese present. the show was most pleasant and the shamisen player spent some time talking to the audience about his instrument which was apparently at around 3kg larger and heavier than a standard instrument. The whole experience was free from irritations and most enjoyable.Recommended for dinner.

I was there alone and assigned a seat on the ground floor. Despite I could not speak Japanese, the staff were trying hard to recommend dishes with body language and pointing at the menu. When I asked for a set of five-type sashimi, the staff kept asking me if I could finish it. The food was great, s...ashimi was fresh, and ordered a few local dishes. Portion of food was not small, for those eating alone, they may order two or three dishes for the first round. The wine / sake menu offered lots of choices at a reasonable price. Seems there was not much restaurants that open until quite late and they were quite full, recommend making advance booking. I ordered a iced tea, 5 types of sashimi, Salmon egg with rice, fried egg with some kind of scallop, steamed shells, the bill was around 4300yen.
