Great evening- good wine and fantastic beef. We had beef sashimi and 5 kinds of Matsusaka beef. A great way to compare the different grades. Really tasty. Highly recommended!

My husband and I decided to celebrate Thanksgiving at What’s in Kyoto, and it was an absolute highlight of our trip. Hands down, it served the best Japanese Wagyu ribeye we’ve ever had—tender, flavorful, and perfectly marbled. We even learned all about Matsuzakagyu beef from the knowledgeable staff,... which added a wonderful educational touch to the meal. The beauty and passion of this culinary art form truly shine through in every single bite. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic and luxurious dining experience!

I’ve been in Japan for about a week now, and have had several amazing meals. This one blows them all out of the water. The quality of meat is absolutely on another level, the servers are amazing, and the sides compliment everything perfectly. I’ll be in Kyoto a couple more days, and I am 1000% sure ...I’ll be coming back.

I don’t say this lightly: this was literally the best meal of my life. If you are anywhere near Kyoto, do yourself a favor and book a table at What’s Matsusaka Beef. We ordered the Special Set with Sukiyaki Sauce, which comes with four premium cuts of Matsusaka Wagyu (around 340g total, enough for ...two people). The beef was buttery and incredibly tender. We also had assorted vegetables and rice, which made a great addition to our meal. The service was outstanding — so kind, genuinely engaged, and helpful with every question. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, with private booths (or stalls) for each party that made the experience more genuinely Japanese. I would give it 10 stars if I could! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
