Fugufukuji

My wife ate several different fugu dishes that we ordered a la carte. We shared sashimi, grilled fugu and we each had an order of fried fugu. The food was good and well prepared although the fish doesn’t have a lot of flavor. The soy sauce and other condiments matched the fish well. Total price f...or dinner including 3 beers and a bottle of water was around $350 USD. Service was very good and friendly. No translation problems. Note that the online menu seems to be out of date. They only had fugu when we were there. We had some trouble finding the place as the taxi dropped us off a few doors way. I’ve posted a photo of the entrance. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor.

What an experience. On my list of things to do in Tokyo was to try Fugu (poisonous blowfish), and this didn’t disappoint. First, educational opportunity- Japan licenses a handful of chefs yearly prepare Fugu for consumption. This was completely safe, so no worries there. Ok, so, Fugu Fukuji is known... as the top restaurant in Tokyo for Fugu. In fact, this spot consistently ranks #1 and serves celebrities and Presidents. We had an experience from the beginning to the end. First, we tried sashimi-styled fugu, which was amazing. Next, we had deep-fried fugu. Again, amazing. Next, we were treated to a meal prepared by the chef and owner himself, Mr. Ken Yasuge, who seemed intrigued by us coming from DC to dine at his place. He prepared fugu hot pot, which again was flavorful. Finally, leaving nothing to waste, he used the fugu stock to make an amazing rice soup. Overall, what an amazing experience.

This was my first time to experience the rush of eating Fugu. As I did my due diligent research I found many positive comments for Fukuji. As indicated in many comments this is not a very inexpensive experience. Fukuji specializes in Fugu and in my opinion should you decided to experience Fugu I... think you would want it prepared correctly. I opted for the Fugu Sashimi and the Fugu Fin Sake. With respect tot he Fugu itself I found the taste to be close to neutral and the texture to be slightly Gelatinous. The green onions and sauce provide assisted in pulling out additional flavors.

It was first time our nieve visit Japan so we wanted her to experience fuku, blow fish. Fukuji has best reputation so we reserved through a Tokyo agent for dinner for 5 pax Without first checked out the prices before we booked, we were shocked of the prices: mixed menu started at ¥35,000 (US$300) s...o it would have costed us total close to US$1,600 had we ordered such. We ordered a la carte: sashimi for 2 costed $150 so we the nabe hot pot. All-in, we spent $900 for 5 … and walked out still hungry. Must say the fuku was best, not "fish-like" Moral of story: worth it for the experience of trying out the best fuku if money is not the issue.

We always go to this restaurant when ever we are in Tokyo. We have survived eating fugu till this day. The last time we went on Sunday the 28th October together with my daughter and her fiance. It was the first time they had eaten fugu.... and they were very worried. Still, they survived the ordeal.... Great fugu as always
