“Stylishly fused elements offering something different”
Very interesting, tasty "fusion" menu that after two weeks traveling in Japan and eating mostly Japanese food at lunch and dinner hit the spot. Interesting flavors playing off familiar themes and traditional Japanese ingredients, with the occasional Western flourish. Service was super courteous, the... staff's English was excellent, but the pacing for our "short" course was a trifle slow.

“Amazing but different Japanese Dining Experience....”
Recently dined here and took the "Akamatsu Course" which was quite delicious - all options that day were set courses. Really imaginative and different, this was fine dining but a little unusual and very imaginative. We we lucky to have an excellent server in Magnus who helped us navigate the menu op...tions and explained each dish as it arrived. He was also very good in recommending wines to enjoy with the food. Menu needed to be seen to be believed : Lobster Bisque followed by the "Chef's Speciality" - Kobe beef filled with sea urchin topped with smoked caviar !The oyster tempura and the charcoal grilled kobe beef were other highlights. Amazing find, nice bright and welcoming atmosphere. Liked it a great deal and the server was very knowledgeable too. Expensive but good value given quality of dining experience. Worth being on all 'foodie's lists' to visit when in Tokyo.

“Superb 'gourmet' stylish upscale Japanese restaurant”
Pre-set menus offer a range of 6-7 choices that increase in choice of ingredients, volume of food and number of courses to satisfy every appetite. We had a wonderful meal, full of delicious surprises all uniquely Japanese. Every course was perfect and we cannot recommend this restaurant highly enoug...h. Walking distance from Roppongi and the Tokyo 'art district' by the National Art Centre Tokyo. Dinner for two at the 2nd (to the bottom) of 6 choices of set courses was Yen 35,450 (US$325) including 2 glasses of wine apiece. Open for lunch 11-3; dinner 5:30-11 pm. Call for reservations (03 5413-0086) or on weeknights you can take your chances at walking in. This is fine dining so dress appropriately; popular with the after-work well-heeled set.

“good food, horrible service!”
My husband and I went for lunch after yet another lovely day in our vacation in Tokyo and where in a very relaxed mood and ready to have an excellent lunch at Hal Yamashita's. We ordered de kobe beef healthy salad with curry rice and the charcoal kobe beef on steamed rice. The british waiter, out of... a sudden started to tell us that they had the same dishes with regular beef and asked us if we knew what kobe beef was and that it is more expensive that the regular!!! The food was carefully done and with good ingredients and we ignored the out of place remarks. But when he brought the check he took the time to let us know that at this restaurant you can pay at the table and that the check is inside the black envelope he brought :))) So a very bad experience! Too bad the food is good!
