“Small but perfectly formed”
Ise Sueyoshi is a delightful small restaurant in downtown Tokyo. Yuuki Tanaka (chef/owner) is a very attentive and personable host. His food and presentation is excellent. Multi-course, chef selection (Omakase style). We ate at the counter, which I think is a better option as we could interact with ...Yukon and his team. Recommend the sake paring, which works very well. We don’t eat beef and they accommodated this by swapping out to Sea Bream, which was lovely. Not suitable for people with mobility difficulties as it was accessible by a 2 floor set of narrow outside stairs. However, this in a way adds to the unique experience- very much undiscovered, like a great speakeasy bar - you have to know where it is!

“Perfect kaiseki experience in Tokyo”
You would love this kaiseki experience. Chef Tanaka orchestrates the meal with his other 3 chefs impeccably. There are only 5 seats at the chef's table and 5 seats in the private dining room, so please book early! There are 2 sessions for dinner and they are able to handle dietary requirements. It i...s very easy to book online from their website. Chef Tanaka himself welcomes you with sake and explains each dish and the produce. He speaks very good English with a pictorial book of the fishermen, the growers and hunters that supply him from the Mie prefecture. For those who have been on the Kumano kodo trail, this is his region where he came from 10 years ago. The news is out for the English speaking world as we outnumbered the one solo Japanese diner last night! The menu is driven by the season and in autumn featured mushrooms, chestnuts, persimmons and puffed rice. Venison, mackerel, tuna, amago, lobster, crab and fugu pufferfish all creatively and artfully presented. The matcha chocolate fondant for dessert was heavenly. 10 different sake were paired with each dish. Slightly tricky to find as it is on the 3rd floor with the lift and stairs on the left side of the building. Ground floor is Bar Vivian. There is a light with Ise Sueyoshi indicating the entrance. We will definitely be back! Worth the trip from Australia.

“Anniversary Dinner”
We celebrated our two-year civil wedding anniversary at Ise Sueyoshi in Tokyo, considered by many the best restaurant in Japan. In 2024, it was awarded the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Restaurants: #1 in Japan, #2 in Asia, and #12 worldwide. The restaurant serves Kappo Kaiseki, a...n intimate style of traditional kaiseki, where each dish is prepared right in front of you with detailed explanations. The space is very exclusive — only five seats at the counter and one private room for five guests — so reservations are essential. Chef Yuuki Tanaka, originally from Mie Prefecture, began cooking at age four, inspired by his father’s restaurant. Today, he brings ingredients and traditions from Mie to Tokyo, while also sharing the stories of the producers — farmers, fishermen, and hunters. A lovely touch is the illustrated booklet in English with photos of the people behind the ingredients, making the experience even more cultural and meaningful. We enjoyed the autumn menu, with sashimi, fugu hot pot, venison, Ise lobster dumplings, Iga Wagyu, and seasonal desserts — all paired with more than ten kinds of sake, each one carefully matched to the dish. It was more than a meal: a cultural and human journey. Truly unforgettable, and one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had.
