Niku-no Yamamoto

Niku no Yamamoto, operating since 1947, has three floors - the first devoted to steak and the second to tempura, sukiyaki, and shabu-shabu. The third floor is a banquet hall. I tried one of the lower-priced lunches on the first floor, the grilled steak set (1,050 yen); there is also a yakiniku set... for the same price. The sets come with salad, soup, rice, pickles, a slice of fruit, and a drink (coffee/iced coffee/oolong tea). The steak, grilled at the table, was bigger than I expected, and very tender and juicy. The restaurant, a ten-minute walk from the north exit of Hachioji Station, has a constant stream of customers at lunch. The service is polite and efficient. Smoking is allowed. Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB cards are accepted.
