“Explosion 💥 of flavours.”
I discovered bento boxes in 1978, kindly delivered by Kashiyama in Paris. For over 45 years I've enjoyed sushi and sashimi around the world, but at Kikunoi Roan I discovered an explosion of flavors. Service and friendliness are always present in this tiny restaurant.

“Great dining experience”
A wonderful venue with incredibly talented chefs who made the experience engaging as they prepared our meal right in front of us. The standout dish was the tuna sushi with a soy-marinated egg yolk—absolutely unforgettable. Overall, an excellent dining experience!

“Good Kaiseki in central locatio”
A very good meal with some excellent dishes. But the Early Spring menu was more a selection of tasty tidbits than a continuous structured meal. A very warm welcome from the chef and his team. Did I like the food - yes. Was I blown away, no.

“Still top notch and a great deal (2 * Michelin)”
Went to Kikunoi Roan a 2nd time as we had an unforgettable meal the first time in 2015….and it continues to impress! We arrived a bit early as we didn’t want to be late since we were walking but that was no problem with the staff. We were then whisked off to the bar and had a more interactive meal t...alking with the chefs and head chef Yoshiharu Murata. Definitely lunch and a show! And of course the progressive Kaiseki summer menu was so delicate and impeccably done. Definitely the best bang for your buck in central Kyoto too which is a big plus if you’re on limited time. This will always be our special place to eat when in Kyoto.
