This a huge classical restaurant with a formal garden. At night, it caters mainly to groups, and offers various full meals. Even though advertised as a sushi place, the set menus offer only a few sushi pieces. But every dish is carefully prepared to the best standards. On top of this, the standa...rd plan includes “Nomihoodai”, all you can drink (any drink!).

Sort of less expensive than the most elegant kaiseki restaurant in a XIX century house with a pretty Japanese garden. Food was good, a variety of small dishes that included raw fish and shrimps, a ramen soup, tempura and a cooked dish with smooth pork taste. Service should be a bit more polite and... if possible, to have a basic English.

This old-style restaurant features a magnificent garden and many dining rooms for private parties and company-sponsored dinners. As part of such a group dinner for a group of about 25, we got one of the standard full-course sets, which consisted of many small dishes. The service was good but unders...tandably less personal than in a small establishment. The food too was fine. The shabu shabu mini-dish was the highlight of the dinner. The sushis were OK but not memorable. But above all, we enjoyed the "nomihoodai" (all you can drink---sake, beer, the works). For many diners in our room and neighboring room, the evening ended in a blur.

If you wanna experience the genuine Japanese food and culture, you should definitely visit this restaurant. Pros: - food quality is exceptional - service is above the highest expectations and pretty esthetic - interior is typically traditional - the restaurant is located in a fantastic Japanese ga...rden with ponds and small bridges - a geisha show comes as a bonus Recommended strongly. It is a must visit place in Kyoto.

Service is barely decent. Of course it's not personal. Individually they are ultra nice and kind, and this is obviously why it does not get a "terrible" review. But there is obviously poor training and insufficient staff. Cold dishes are a notch down from ordinary, on the level of sushi chain in a w...estern restaurant. "Kobe beef" sukiyaki is pre-prepared on the "DIY" style, just a broth and thin slivers of beef, much closer to a shabu-shabu than a sukiyaki. Overpriced and underwhelming. Positive reviews tell us more about the quality reviewers are used to.
