“Great experience”
Excellent food, all 7 traditional kyoto style cuisine. Nice selection of sake, also several kyoto sake. Staff vety friendly and professional.

“Ok, but I would eat elsewhere”
I’ll start with the positives….all the food was nice enough and came fairly quickly, and the serving staff were friendly. However what stands out are the negatives….the host came across as rude/arrogant, he claimed the ground floor tatami seating area was fully booked but this was not the case when... we arrived nor when we left, we were seated upstairs at regular table near another western family. The food was fine but not particularly memorable. We were given appetisers which was a very small dish of tofu each which we assumed was complimentary but this was added to the bill, when we politely questioned this the host was rude and said this was typical of the area but not sure that this is the case. Unfortunately the way he spoke to us and laughed at us arrogantly is the standout memory of our night. Have not had this experience this trip with our teens nor when we have visited Japan previously. Go elsewhere and enjoy your dinner!

“Not very good”
We ordered several typical Japanese dishes and the quality was average to be generous. Not worth ir comparing to other Kyoto restaurants. Would definitely not come back

“Average”
We we're strolling around and decided to stop at suishin for dinner. We were greeted by a rather unpleasant staff. We were told to just sit and wait. We were having second thoughts about leaving as we felt unwelcomed. When we were finally invited to the table, we saw that there were many empty seats... and wonder why we had to wait. Service at the table were generally okay. Food we're slow to come and rather underwhelming. We ended up paying 4080 yen for a small bowl of rice, a rice in an iron pot, tempura and a tofu starter. Unfortunately, we can't say we would recommend this place.

“Excellent if underreported place with a cozy atmosphere”
Underreported gem of Japanese cooking in the maze of small streets not far from Gion. Atmospheric yet simple and very cozy, the place offers three set menus at 4000, 5000 and 6000 yen. The food is excellent, sashimi is freshness itself, the 'syobu-syobu' pork boiling experience is fun to add to an e...xcellent taste.
