“Excellent dining, lovely room”
We stayed one night with the 9-course evening meal, then Japanese and Western breakfasts. The food is amazing - one of the best meals we have had. Definitely get the wine pairing - the selections are very good and you get the owner who gives a background on each. The meal is visually stunning as wel...l, with many different local pottery dishes. The breakfasts are very generous, the Japanese one was again just exquisite both in looks and taste. The room is very pretty and serene with a garden view, lots of amenities and a nice relaxing bath. Overall a great place to relax and indulge in the middle of the city.

“Kanamean is kinda-mean”
As a Relais & Chateau hotel, the food and wine were good. One goes to Kyoto, however, for more than that, and Kanamean is not just a restaurant; it is a ryokan (hotel). Recommended to us by a friend, we reserved 4 rooms there. There was a minor misunderstanding which resulted in the owner being extr...emely rude to our friend in a totally unacceptable manner. In addition, we found the service to be lacking and inattentive. Of the many, many times we’ve been to Kyoto, this establishment has been the worst to the point that our experience of Kyoto this time was much affected. Indeed, the owner of Kanamean is truly kinda mean. In fact, very rude and mean! I would never go back and urge most to think twice. There are so many nice ryokan in Kyoto with hospitable and nice proprietors. There is no reason we should subject ourselves to this time of rudeness and inappropriate behavior.

“Exceptional food and wine - even for vegetarians”
Incredible food. And the wine collection is huge and impeccable. This is one of the few ryokans we found that would modify meals for vegetarians, tho dashi, the base of Japanese cooking, is used here. We loved our meals here and hope to return. Just a gorgeous experience.

“Traditional 9 course meal”
This was an experience. 9 courses! The plating on each was exquisite and unique. The food was very good. The service excellent. The price insane.

“Yummy and Beautiful”
the Tasting menu was so good , high level quality products each guest has a private dinning room in pure japanese style the service is perfect each waitress wear the traditional Kimono it was our ladt dinner in Kyoto, one of the best !
