“Incredible food and fantastic atmosphere”

This is a small restaurant that serves up truly fantastic Japanese food. The food is cooked in the kitchen, which is very close to the tables and it is brought out immediately - really it couldn't be better! We had a huge selection of food and everything was sensational but probably for me the tempu...ra was the best - just incredible. I highly, highly recommend this restaurant.

“VERY GOOD FOOD, FANTASTIC SERVICE”

We were informed that Hageten is one of the best restaurant chains in Tokyo that offers very good tempura selections. Our experience was not different. Six of us went to the Ginza Hageten one evening. They accommodated us in a cozy private room in an upper floor. We opted for a set menu that had... several varieties of tempuras, salads, soup and a very delicious dessert. We were served by Ms Orimoto, who is 73. She is working in the same restaurant for the past 40 years, we were told. Her age was not all a barrier when it came to her highly efficient service. All together a wonderful experience, indeed.

“A nice way to explore tempura ”

A large group, hosted in a nice private room on the third floor. OK service. Probably 15 different tempura items combined with a bit of sushi, sashimi and more. It is an interesting way to discover several of the tempura options. Good option for vegetarian guests as well. Nice neighborhood. Not easy... to find via taxi (google maps or tripadvisor options become handy). Overall, worth trying.

“Disappointing Ginza Tempura but cheap”

Review based on one visit (lunch). The Trip Advisor photo library for this Ginza venue is confused. Many of the photos are not of the venue I dined at today in Ginza. According to their website, they are a chain, with 23 venues of which Ginza is only one. Some of the photos are of the correct Gin...za venue. Others not. Look at the reviews to the right of this column. They are clearly talking about different places. "Yummy Kushiage"? Er... I don't think so... These guys have apparently been serving tempura since 1928. Sufficient time to get it right? You would hope so. Sadly a very average score for this Ginza establishment. Almost empty at 12:00 noon on a working day in Ginza. Not a good sign. Wait staff kind and friendly. Brought the starter / set to the table. Good hot towels. Then the hot food started coming. Tempura prawns, first to arrive, were OK. Then it started going downhill. I noticed the hue of the batter around the vegetables and other fish was getting darker and less crisp. Hot? Yes? Fresh? Yes? Taste? Mmmm. See my photos and make your own mind up. You can't see it in the photos but the tempura batter was quite brown, soft and curved rather than crusty and crumbly. This was not a terrible meal. By any standards. But as I walked out I noticed two things: (1) the chef at the station was very young and (2) the oil in the big pan was very brown, with what looked like a deep brown residue in the bottom of the pan. Probably from yesterday. Two of us ate a chef's o-makase (chef's recommendation) course for ¥6,000 (total) without wine or beer which is difficult to find in Ginza. So if you are in that part of town and want to have pretty good tempura at a very reasonable price, this is a place you might want to look at.
