“Authentic dining experience”

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel staff for its excellent food and ambiance. It was a bit hard to find, but local residents were helpful at directing us. We were not prepared for the seating arrangement, which is on traditional tatami mats on the floor, and my husband was extremely unco...mfortable because of his bad knees. (We must have been the only diners over 50 in the entire place - for good reason.). The food and service, however, were excellent. Although the staff speaks almost no English, our waiter was prepared with a convenient and helpful translation device. We ordered several small plates and washed them down with the very good draft beer (I have no idea what kind it was). The sashimi was the best we’ve had yet - fresh and very tasty. Tempura and fried octopus were tender, light and not greasy at all. And the seaweed salad was a triplet variety we’d never seen before, accompanied by a lovely light ginger dipping sauce. This place can be very expensive depending on how much you order (the young men sitting next to us seemed to be on an all-night eating binge, with dishes coming over to them continuously), but we got away with a very satisfying meal for about $50. Note that smoking is allowed here.

“Traditional Japanese Restaurant ”

As we left the hotel and realizing we didn’t want to go too far for dinner, we thought we’d try a little restaurant behind the hotel. Walking through the front door was like stepping back in time, very traditional decor greeted us along with a very helpful waiting staff. Once we were asked to remove... our shoes, we settled into place at our table. A comprehensive menu was provided which covered all options. We decided to start with Sashimi, Daikon Salad, Seaweed Salad and Squid Tempura. The freshness and flavor of the food provided was excellent, it was so good we decided to more of the Daikon Salad in addition to a Mixed Tempura plate. The salads were fresh and in the case of the Daikon, subtlety seasoned. The Tempura batter was light and cooked to perfection whilst the Sashimi was as you’d expect fresh and presented with skill and artistry. I think this restaurant is normally frequented by locals, but if you ever find yourself in Asakusa, be sure to find the time and seek it out.

We ordered a plate of sashimi, fish shabu shabu, shishamo, tori-yakitori and daikon salad. Seated on tatami. Ambience was good. My local Japanese friend said it was a good recommendation from me. I just Google and found it near where my holiday apartment was.
