“An outstanding Japanese-French dinner in Shibuya/Ebisu”

5
Reviewed 14/Dec/2019

We had an outstanding dinner at Amour. This was our first time there. The restaurant is located in a mixed and high-end residential/retail neighborhood in Shibuya, about 5 minute walk from the Ebisu metro station. It looks like the place looked like it used to be a house. The interior was beauti...fully finished in a very minimalist European style. Service from reception all the way to departure was impeccably executed. Our waitress spoke excellent English. Food was presented in an absolutely beautiful and often pleasantly quirky manner throughout the dinner. Everything was delicious. We are definitely NOT an expert on French restaurants in Tokyo, but we definitely had an outstanding experience at Amour. Highly Recommended.

“Amazing birthday dinner!”

Amazing birthday dinner at Michelin-starred Amour アムール! Thank you for making my birthday so special. The chef has turned local, Japanese ingredients into a refined collection of French-inspired dishes. Each one showcased the natural flavors of the ingredients while being enhanced by its unique pre...paration. And the wine pairings featured Japanese wine makers from all over the world and perfectly matched each of the 11 courses. The service was outstanding! The server and sommelier were attentive and explained everything perfectly. A very special evening. Thank you!

“Extraordinary and Intimate Dining Experience”

An incredible dining experience! A personal menu is handed to you the moment you are seated. The wine list is vast and diverse. The moment each meal is served you get a detailed explanation of the ingredients used to create it and the inspiration behind it. Each course is unique and palatable using ...ingredients found all over Japan. The service was outstanding as well. At the end of our meal we got personalized cards with the labels of the wines we drank (In Spanish!) which was an excellent touch. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to somebody looking for a once in a lifetime experience. The culinary highlight of my stay in Tokyo.

“The Quintessential "Wow" Restaurant”

Reviewed 30/May/2018

I do not usually describe my food experiences in detail but then Amour is one of those "wow" restaurants that makes writers to do so. I apologized for our tardiness as one is expected to in Japan. The receptionist courteously replied that it was all right and we were all led into the foyer where w...e all used the restrooms. At this moment, we already had the feeling that it would be a unique experience. We were then led to a function room on the second level and were greeted by an English-speaking staff named Kai. She gave out individual menu cards, personally signed by the chef, with a description of the restaurant's mission. Our six course meal began with Broad Beans (初夏の大地), which came in a basket of greens. The pods contained three beans each, which were actually three different pastries made with beans and other ingredients. The salad course was simply called Squid, White Asparagus, Lemon (若葉) and what made the taste distinct was the lemon jelly ingredient. Except for Mom's, the squid was half-cooked. Amour had asked prior to our arrival if any of us has dietary preferences and we told them that Mom doesn't eat raw seafood. The soup was lobster bisque called Lobster, Lily Bulb, Tomato (継承) and the main course was Pork, Wild Asparagus, Grapefruit (新綠). The whole piece of pork loin was cooked with straw in an earthenware pot and Kai went around the table to let each of us smell the aroma. The pot was returned to the kitchen for the slicing of the pork. The pork was cooked medium, which was perfect. Mom finished it, a rare feat. The first dessert was Cherry, Verbena, Honey (青葉), which was cherry mousse with cherries, jelly, and gold foil wrapped in a thin cookie and accompanied by a scoop of sorbet and garnished with cherry dressing and ground pistachios. That was already divine, but what really blew us away was the second dessert called Réverbération (余韻), which was a palette of mini-desserts including macaroons, matcha rolls, cake slice, chocolate nuts, etc. Applause ! Applause ! This experience was definitely for the books and one important factor was the service provided by Kai. We highly recommend Amour for an extraordinary culinary experience in Tokyo.
