Attempted to find a Kaiseki restaurant on Tablelog for a family gathering in Japan. Paid JPY1760 to Tablelog to secure a booking for a 9-course meal plus 2.5 hours of free-flow drinks at JPY18000+10% per person. In total, I paid JPY80960, which equates to approximately USD520, for a small average d...ecorated private room, service by non-English speaking waiters, precisely 9 dishes, various kinds of sake, no complimentary dish from the chef, and food that tasted natural but average. The restaurant is located about a 10-minute walk from Shibuya station. Comparing it to similar restaurants, the cost was more than double, but the dining experience was below par. I was left wondering if the elaborate plating was what made it so expensive? I trusted that using Tablelog for booking would lead me to value-matched restaurants, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment! Never again 🚫
